About

Reaching Antarctica is challenging for any traveler. For wheelchair users, it’s nearly impossible. With a traditional cruise not an option for her, award-winning travel writer and wheelchair user Sylvia Longmire sets out to explore her final continent through a carefully choreographed, adaptive land and sea expedition. The journey begins in Florida, continues through Santiago (Chile), Puerto Williams, the southernmost hotel in the world, and culminates in a flyover of the Drake passage to board a ship at King George Island. With multiple wheelchairs to maximize mobility options and a trained support team from Wheel the World, Sylvia attempts every stage: airport transfers, ship embarkation, zodiac boarding, and attempts at landings on icy terrain. As obstacles mount, the film reveals the hidden barriers – and unexpected breakthroughs – of opening earth’s most remote continent to disabled explorers.
